Part of our lifestyle motto is to repurpose anything we can. There is an old homesite on the property that is located where we intend to build. The house burned down over 20 years ago, but the foundation of cinder blocks still stands. We determined that these cinder blocks would be useful in building raised garden beds. So Christi has diligently chisels out close to 100 cinder blocks and hauled them to our raised bed location. Building the raised beds is in the early November game plan.
One wall gone
Unfortunately, many blocks had cement poured through them. Chiseling out blocks in between them was a lot of work.

Demo Done
No more bricks that are able to be dismantled.
Mule hauling
We purchased this great work vehicle. It is fun to drive and helpful to haul.

Ready to assemble
The next step was to complete the leveling that our wonderful son, Kevin, started, and assemble the rest. This was no easy task. It took both a Saturday and Sunday afternoon to complete. We now have a beautiful raised bed filled with a combination of sand and good soil as well as ash from our weekly fires and chicken coop cleanup. Hopefully by spring, the soil will be ready for planting.
We are so grateful to have neighbors who have volunteered their equipment to dig out and level the land for our second bed. Woohoo!
